He knew that his siblings were going to have a party, he'd have done the same thing when he was younger, but that didn't mean he was happy about it. He suddenly knew why his parents had been so exasperated with him when they got back from long business trips; coming home, you just want to go to your actual living quarters and die for a day or two. Oliver sighed, hands folding gingerly around the Styrofoam Starbucks cup. In truth, Oliver had never been that big of a Coffee fan until he was shipped away because of his father -- on the island he had limited refreshments; water that took at least thirty minutes to purify, Coconut milk which was simply intolerable, Mango and Orange Juice, and an unlimited supply of coffee beans it seemed. Lifting the cup slowly, Oliver took a small sip. The taste brought so many memories back, some good and some bad -- most bad. In truth, Oliver didn't know how he could stomach the taste without feeling sick; the things that happened on the island were unbearable for the most part. Setting the cup back down, Oliver dropped his chin into his palm and let his eyes roam; Starbucks wasn't that crowded, not like it normally was when he was there. It being the weekend, he'd thought there would be more people, but no -- a few college students lounged in darkened corners, doing homework or just talking, and a couple or two sat in booths on the other side of the Coffeehouse too caught up in one another to care about anything else. Part of him wished he could be that care free -- not having to worry about the dangers of the world, or of the evil that takes place in it. Oliver couldn't help the small chuckle that escaped his lips as his eyes flickered to the window, staring out the glass and into the bustling streets. Kids laughed and played on the side walks, parents watching them carefully. Street Musicians played in the park across the street, cases open for any donations that they might receive. Stores were open all around. Part of Oliver was greatfull that the Starbucks was at the very front of the Mall, it made him easier to people watch and just be perceived as lost in his own thoughts instead of actually watching them. Popping his neck, Oliver continued to gaze out the window, wondering how much longer it would be before he could finally go home. tagged . |
